Aspendos and Perge Tour

Aspendos

• Location: Near Belkıs village in Serik district.

• What it is famous for: Its theater. It is one of the best-preserved ancient theaters from the Roman period.

• Theater Capacity: It can accommodate approximately 15,000 spectators.

• Architecture: It was built during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (161–180 AD). Its acoustic structure is still used for concerts and events.

• Other Remains: There are also structures such as aqueducts, agora, basilica, stadium, but the theater is the most impressive.

Perge (Perga)

• Location: Near Aksu district, very close to Antalya city center.

• Establishment: Dates back to 1000 BC.

• History: First Hellenistic, then Roman influence. It is also an important place in Christian history (one of the places visited by St. Paul).

• Important Structures:

• Theater (not as big as Aspendos, but impressive)

• Stadium (20,000 people, very well preserved)

• Baths

• Agora (market area)

• Columned streets and monumental gates

• Art and Architecture: Known for its statues, mosaics and columned streets.

If we compare the two:

• Aspendos is especially famous for its theater and stands out with its show/performance architecture.

• Perge, on the other hand, is a larger city settlement and offers more information about daily life.
